Job Description

Purpose/Description-

  • Works under general supervision of Surgical Services Manager to provide assistance to the surgical team during the intra-operative phase of surgical care. Works in collaboration with the surgeon and health care team in the performance of surgical procedures, including assessment, planning, directing, providing and evaluating advanced nursing care.

 

  • Monday-Friday, No weekeends or call. 

Requirements

Education and Experience-

Education:

  • Greater than 2 years, highly skilled multiple specialties in the area of First Assisting.
  • Interpersonal skills to successfully interact with patients, relatives, physicians, managers and other employees.
  • Current BLS
  • Current ACLS
  • Certification of Completion from AORN recognized RNFA course.
  • Successful completion of an RNFA program that meets the AORN Recommended Education Standards for RNFA and criteria

 

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current Registered Nurse License in the state of Oregon.
  • Basic skills and related to aseptic/ sterile technique and knowledge of surgical instrumentation preferred

 

Experience:

  • (2) Years’ Minimum of surgical assisting experience in a hospital or outpatient clinic

 

Duties and Responsibilities-

Essential Duties:

  • Practice standards of performance: Pre-operative. Performs pre-operative assessment and evaluation. Collaborates with the surgical team on plan of care. Intra-operative: Provides knowledge based technical assistance to the surgeon during the operative procedure according to AORN standards, licensure, state regulation and facility/practice protocols, including: Using instruments and medical devices. Providing surgical exposure. Handling and/or cutting tissue. Providing hemostatis, clamp, cut, and ligate tissue as directed by the surgeon. Suturing as directed by the surgeon. Post-Operative. Evaluates the patient post-operatively according to facility protocols
  • Demonstrates ability to perform technical skills and procedures.
  • Assists in the intra-operative care of the patient by performing technical duties as assigned.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Light lifting/carrying - Must be able to lift boxes and supplies of between 0 and 35 lbs.
  • Moderate lifting - Must be able to lift larger boxes or supplies to and from dollies or cart.
  • Moderate pushing - Must be able to push a dolly or cart weighing up to 150 lbs. about 50 yards.
  • Reaching above shoulders - Must be able to put supplies weighing up to 35 lbs. up on a shelf and take them down.
