Job Description

Purpose/Description: Responsible for maintaining the accuracy and timely accounting of incoming payments for revenue accounts. Duties include preparation, processing, posting, and reconciling to source documents.

Requirements

Education and Experience-

Education:

  • High School diploma, or equivalent.

 

Experience:

  • 1+ years’ experience in medical payment posting required.
  • Working knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT codes.
  • Professional attitude, demeanor, and work ethic.
  • Candidates must be able to work with a high volume of work while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy and demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

Duties and Responsibilities-

 

Essential Duties:

  • Posts insurance payments, electronic funds transfers, patient payments, contractual discounts, and miscellaneous receipts accurately to the correct patient accounts. Posts all denials received with appropriate reason codes.
  • Obtains payment details for payments received if none was provided with payment.
  • Prints all zero-pay EOBs from vendor sites daily to ensure all zero payments have been accurately posted.
  • Review batch reports after posting payments to ensure the Cerner System is posting correctly and ensures all batch corrections are completed daily.
  • Meet monthly post goals and closing deadlines.
  • Review EOBs for correct payment. Notifies Supervisor of denied charges, rejected claims, or other issues that affect expected reimbursement per contracts.
  • Review all credit balances to determine if a refund is due.
  • Responsible for advising insurance companies about overpayments. Completes refunds for patients and insurance companies promptly.
  • Maintains appropriate supporting documentation for all refunds. Verifies refund checks for correctness and mails the checks.
  • Maintains competent accuracy level.
  • Prioritizes assigned tasks and conducts the appropriate follow-through.
  • Responds effectively and timely to questions regarding refund/adjusted accounts and provide accurate explanation of status.
  • Maintains scanned documents logically according to department SOP.
  • Maintain timely resolution of payments posted to the general ledger account.
  • Completes special assignments and projects with minimal supervision and consistently meets the department’s performance, production, and quality standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
