Job Description

Purpose/Description-

  • The Resource Nurse helps ensure the delivery of safe patient care by responding to the fluctuating patient care needs across the hospital. Assures appropriate documentation is completed on all patients, assures appropriate staffing levels according to patient mix and other pertinent factors; understands and adheres to laws, rules, and regulations relating to patient care; serves as liaison between nursing staff and physicians as necessary; is able to react proactively to change and performs related duties as assigned. Displays understanding of performance improvement measures as set forth by the department manager and participates in data collection efforts to support those improvements.

Requirements

Education and Experience-

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required, an associate's degree in nursing (A.D.N.), or bachelor’s degree in nursing (B.S.N.) preferred.

 

Experience:

  • Three (3) years’ experience as an Acute Care Nurse within the last 2 years with at least one year of which included charge or senior level responsibilities preferred. 
  • Completes a skills checklist and demonstrates competency in at least two nursing departments within the first 90 days.

 

License/ Certification:

  • Current Oregon Registered Nurse licensure required at date of hire.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) required. 
  • ACLS preferred.
  • PALS preferred.

 

Duties and Responsibilities-

Essential Duties:

  • Analyzes assessment data to determine diagnosis/patient care priorities
  • Collaborates and coordinates care of the patient with the interdisciplinary team
  • Completes comprehensive patient assessment specific to clinical area/unit
  • Develops and updates the patient plan of care; documents all aspects of care thoroughly per hospital policy
  • Follows organizational policies in providing safe patient care at all times.
  • Implements the plan of care utilizing resources and best evidence
  • Integrates patient and family teaching in daily routine; involves patient/family in identification of expected outcomes and goals
  • Participates in unit and/or department quality improvement efforts
  • Mentors and focuses on education of nursing staff
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Other Skills:

  • Strong problem solving, decision making and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in use of computer including MS Office applications.
  • Ability to manage complex operations and diverse personnel.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
