Education and Experience-
Education:
-
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required, an associate's degree in nursing (A.D.N.), or bachelor’s degree in nursing (B.S.N.) preferred.
Experience:
-
Two (2) years staff RN experience required and experience as OR RN in surgical services a plus.
License/ Certification:
-
Current Oregon RN License
-
CNOR preferred, or ability to obtain CNOR within (1) year of hire.
Duties and Responsibilities-
Essential Duties:
-
Circulating nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities of circulating nurses include, but are not limited to:
-
Consults and coordinates with other health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.

Conducts pre and post-operative education
-
Serves as the communication liaison to family and members of the OR team
-
Takes and monitors patient's vital signs
-
Provides basic, bedside care
-
Prepares, administers and records prescribed medications. Reports adverse reactions in accordance with facility policy.
-
Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol
-
Records all care information concisely, accurately, and completely and in a timely manner
-
Preps the operating room for patient and procedure
-
Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse functioning
-
Initiates counting of appropriate surgical items with authorized personnel prior to moving of patient into operating room.
-
Performs "TIME OUT" to ensure correct patient and procedure according to facility policy prior to start of procedure.
-
Monitors patient's physical and emotional well-being throughout the procedure
-
Assists in positioning, responding to comfort and safety of the patient
-
Provides accurate care and handling of specimens
-
Observes and enforces strict standards of asepsis

Inventories all items pre and post-surgery
-
Initiates patient education plan as prescribed by the physician. Teaches patients and family how to manage their post-treatment home care needs.

Performs other position related duties as assigned.
